[Melbourne Wedding] Ada & Andrew
We were thrilled to be invited to photograph Andrew and Ada’s wedding at Merrimu Receptions in Murrumbeena this Melbourne winter. With an East meets West theme and a large guest list, the Black Avenue Productions team were pleased to capture rich cultural elements and intimate moments.
Ada’s family and friends travelled from Hong Kong a week earlier to spend time with her before the big day.
Ada’s parents were pleased that Andrew wanted to show his respect to Ada’s Hong Kong cultural background by taking part in a Chinese traditional Tea Ceremony.
9:00am was decided as the ‘good-luck’ start time for the wedding. The tea ceremony is considered the most significant tradition of a Chinese wedding where the bride and groom pay their respect and show gratitude towards their family members, who in turn bless the newly weds as they begin their journey as husband and wife.
Tea Ceremony | Melbourne wedding
In order to be ready for the tea ceremony, the bridesmaids started their hair and makeup at 3:30am. Ada was the last to finish hair and makeup to ensure she could get as much sleep as possible before a long day.
Ada and Andrew both wore traditional Chinese wedding garments in red and gold, before Ada changed into her stunning white wedding dress and reception dress by Stella York and Leah S Design.
Amazing Limousines
A sleek looking limousine picked up the couple and their bridal party from their apartment. Friendly driver Gavin from Amazing Limousines poured the wedding party champagne before heading to Merrimu Receptions.
Merrimu Wedding
Greeted by Peter, Venue Manager from Merrimu Receptions, Ada and Andrew were ready for their ceremony.
Formalities began, set in the picturesque ballroom and dance floor, a bride’s dream-wedding venue.
A beautiful cake was cut by the happy couple, made by Andrew’s sister Coral, as a wedding gift.
The three-course meal by Merrimu was both delicious and beautifully presented.
In the background, guests enjoyed having their photos taken at the photo booth, provided by 2 men & a Booth, giving guests a fun distraction and memorable keep sake.
